Sphagnum magellanicum/ Magellan's Peatmoss Sphagnum grows a in places of nutrition-poor wetlands at Glacier National Park. The moss acidifies the water it has surrounding it so that no other plant can grow there, or near, unless it can survive the acid of the water. This plant is unique to my park since it has made itself the only plant in the nutrition-poor wetlands. |
Platanthera dilatata/White Bog Orchid
This plant has a single embryonic seed leaf, leaves with parallel veins, and flowers with parts in threes. This plant is found in streams and marshes. Besides it’s already unique color, this plant plays a vital role in the ecosystem of the park. This plant provides the majority of the pollen for the butterflies. |
